The "Moth Orchid" is native to the Philippines, New Guinea,
Indonesia and Australia. This
orchid is quickly becoming the most popular of all orchids. The
white or pastel flowers display themselves gracefully on an arching
spray that lasts three months. The Phalaenopsis and its relatives,
Doritis and Doritanopsis, remain compact; they grow one or more
sets of new leaves on top each year. It is especially important
not to let water stand in the center of this plant overnight because
crown rot, often fatal, may occur. After the flowers drop, cut the
flower stem off near the base.
